MCDB Faculty member, Mamuka Kvaratskhelia, and his team sought to alter the structure of integrase which is a key HIV-1 protein which led to the discovery of a new role and revealed the mechanism that causes ALLINIs  (allosteric integrase inhibitors) to impair HIV-1 replication.
