My specific focus is on the entry processes of RNA viruses. How do viruses get into cells? How is this process impacted when a virus encounters a new host species? What immune mechanisms are in place to restrict virus infection of target cells? I leverage my multidisciplinary training—experimental virology, innate immunity, and the molecular evolution of virus-host interactions—to answer these important biological questions. The study of such fundamental biological processes is key to our pursuit to understand life at its most basic level.
