Join us for MLS Seminar featuring Dr. David Nagib, Professor and Miller Endowed Chair in Organic Chemistry and Biochemmistry at the The Ohio State University! The title of his talk is Harnessing Radical Chemistry to Enable Drug Discovery.
Radical and carbene chemistry can afford opposite or orthogonal reactivity to classic two-electron pathways. By developing big data (AI) tools and designing catalytic, radical chaperone strategies that merge open (1e-) and closed shell (2e-) processes, The Nagib Lab has harnessed this complementary reactivity (and polarity) to impart new types of selectivity for remote C-H and C-O functionalizations of alcohols, amines, and carbonyls. These carbene and radical chaperone strategies are continually being developed to streamline the synthesis of complex, medicinally relevant molecules. This seminar will highlight their newest, most exciting chemistry, including examples of bioconjugation, biocatalysis, skeletal editing, and an LSD-inspired lead for neuroplasticity enhancement.
