Eric J. Wagner's research covers diverse aspects of RNA 3' end formation. He studies the regulation of alternative cleavage and polyadenylation of mRNAs and its misregulation in cancer. He also studies the integrator complex, a large modular complex with both endonuclease and phosphatase activities. The integrator complex mediates 3' end formation of a few noncoding RNAs transcribed by RNA polymerase II, but also affects transcription genome wide by affecting the switch from promoter-proximal pausing of RNA polymerase II to productively elongating through a gene.
