Dr. Zhu’s research focuses on understanding the relationship between energy homeostasis and inflammation, which may represent a foundational mechanism underlying metabolic disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Her laboratory uses mouse models to identify mechanisms that drive insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, fatty liver disease, and chronic inflammation. The long-term goal of her research is to define fundamental principles for improving metabolic disorders in patients with type 2 diabetes and for reducing cardiovascular disease events.
