Congratulations to Adrianna Matos, recipient of the first MCDB Student Spotlight Award for Service & Engagement. This new award, which we implemented at the suggestion of the GSO, aims to highlight senior students in the MCDB program who have excelled in their research while also displaying leadership in the program, University or community outside of the lab.

Before joining the MCDB program, Adrianna studied at the University of Puerto Rico- Aguadilla and also participated in the SROP program at Ohio State. Adrianna is currently under the mentorship of Dr. Vidu Garg and is focused on uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the development of the congenital heart disease. In addition to her graduate research, Adrianna is passionate about to the distribution of scientific knowledge. As an undergrad, she created #PrettyIncredible: Inspiring Girls to Change the World Through STEM and has continued her outreach initiatives through involvement in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute Trainee Association (RITA) Outreach Committee as Community Outreach Chair. During the pandemic, Adrianna produced a science podcast series on YouTube called PregĂșntale a Paola.
