Seilhamer Fellowship Proposals Due

save the date

The Jeffrey J. Seilhamer Cancer Foundation has provided the MCDB program with a fellowship.  Dr. Seilhamer was one of the first graduates of MCDB in 1979.  After his untimely passing in 2003, the Foundation established the fellowship in his name.  It is our hope that competition for this award will enrich and stimulate the MCDB research environment.  The award will also recognize outstanding student achievement, and honor the memory of one of our program's first and most successful graduates.

The fellowship will be awarded to a MCDB student who has passed the candidacy exam and has demonstrated exceptional promise in research. The fellowship includes at least $25,000 toward stipend, tuition and fee authorization for one full year.  The fellowship is open to any post candidacy MCDB student in the program, regardless of their research area

Applications should consist of:

  • A research proposal written by the student - cannot exceed 3 single-spaced pages (excluding references).
  • A progress report written by the student – cannot exceed more than 1 single-spaced page
  • An updated CV and
  • A copy of the student’s OSU Advising Report.
  • Letters of support from the student's advisor and from two additional faculty familiar with the student's project (preferably members of the advisory committee).  Faculty letters should be sent directly by the recommenders to the program office (mcdb@osu.edu)

Items 1 to 4 should be submitted, as one PDF, electronically to the program office (mcdb@osu.edu).

Proposals are due at 5 PM on Friday, October 27th.  The term of the fellowship will begin Spring 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter and will be announced at the 3MT competition on November 30th.  Proposals will be evaluated by the MCDB Graduate Studies Committee.
