Clinically, I am a dual-trained open cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgeon who treats various cerebrovascular diseases including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. I received my undergraduate and medical school degrees from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. I completed my residency training and open cerebrovascular fellowship training at Johns Hopkins, and endovascular neurosurgery fellowship training at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Clinically, I study the long-term outcomes of patients with cerebrovascular disorders. Academically, I study the pathomechanisms of primary and secondary injury after acute stroke, with a focus on identifying critical mediators of sustained dysfunction and neurodegeneration. Most recently I have studied the therapeutic potential of immune checkpoint agonists in ischemic stroke and the role of early- and late-entry monocytes in the pathogenesis of long-term neurological deficits after large vessel occlusion.
