My research focuses on understanding and harnessing cellular plasticity and regenerative mechanisms to develop innovative therapies for tissue repair and functional recovery. As a biomedical engineer working at the interface of molecular biology, cell biology, regenerative medicine, and bioengineering, I investigate how extracellular signaling networks, gene regulatory programs, and cell-cell communication govern regeneration, fibrosis, and neuromuscular repair.
A central area of my work explores the use of engineered extracellular vesicles (EVs), biomaterials, and nanotechnology-based delivery systems to modulate cellular behavior and reprogram tissue microenvironments. Through these studies, my laboratory seeks to uncover the molecular mechanisms that regulate cell fate decisions, tissue remodeling, axonal regeneration, muscle innervation, and fibrotic responses. We also examine how biological variables, including sex-based differences, influence regenerative outcomes and therapeutic efficacy.
While our research is strongly motivated by clinically important challenges in peripheral nerve injury, microsurgery, reconstruction, and radiation-induced fibrosis, we are equally committed to advancing fundamental knowledge of the cellular and molecular pathways that drive tissue regeneration and disease progression. By integrating mechanistic discovery with translational innovation, my program aims to develop next-generation regenerative therapies while contributing to a deeper understanding of developmental, cellular, and molecular biology.
